Work by Gibby Waitzkin on display in the Hayloft until February 25

“Fibers of Memory” Exhibit at the Jacksonville Center

The Jacksonville Center for the Arts will present an exhibition of works by Gibby Waitzkin titled Fibers of Memory beginning January 14, 2006 in the Hayloft Gallery. The exhibit will remain in place through February 25, 2006.

This body of work is an intimate portrayal of Gibby Waitzkin’s life as it evolves, echoing cherished memories of people, places and objects and her life-long passion for the environment. The works are assembled from recycled materials, which tell their own story as they are transformed into artworks. The artist’s idea is to reconstruct the debris of the past into a new visible surface that conveys a personal journey deeply embedded in the cycle of life.

The pieces blend artist-made paper with photographs, scanned imagery, and dried and encaustic-preserved flowers from her own gardens. For the Jacksonville Center exhibit, Waitzkin will include six new pieces completed recently at her home in Floyd.The Jacksonville Center is located at 220 Parkway Lane South, Floyd, 1/2 mile south of the stoplight in the town of Floyd.
